What makes the new, hot brand of tungsten rings so fashionable and in demand around the world? When I started researching this question I was surprised that there are so many uses for tungsten other than men’s rings.
The pure form is used mainly in electrical applications, but its many compounds and alloys are used in many applications, most notably in incandescent filaments, X-ray tubes (as both the filament and target), and superalloys. Tungsten is also the only metal from the third transition series that is known to occur in biomolecules, and is the heaviest element known to be used by living organisms (Wikipedia)
Tungsten rings are extremely durable and scratch-resistant. It is a very hard, Cobalt-free, scratch-resistant material that when carefully crafted by skilled workers can evolve into a ring of style, durability, luster and inspiration. Check out a number of different web sites or a video on You-Tube and you will see remarkable demonstrations of how resistant Tungsten rings are to scratches – even using a file – the file might scratch but not the ring! This is simply another reason - out of many - that these styles have become so popular around the world today.
Tungsten is harder than Gold, many times harder than Steel, and even harder than Titanium! In fact on the Mohs’ hardness scale of minerals, diamonds are rated 10 (the highest) while Tungsten is rated 8.5 to 9. It is a fact that the only thing that can scratch these rings are diamonds.
You can spend varying amounts of money for a tungsten ring. Some things to remember would be the source of manufacture and the quality of the manufacturing process. The highest grade are rings made using a 30-step process including bonding the tungsten and carbon powder at temperatures above 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit. I have seen, based upon my studies, that you can buy these styles from $50 up to a thousand or more. It might pay to shop around to make sure you are getting the best value.
And one more thing. You can order a very wide selection of not just grades of finished product and quality but I have seen some with less expensive CZ’s or with lustrous real diamonds. You can order one with solid gold inlay or just gold plating. You can also get a wide variety of designs including beveled edges, Celtic designs and a more simple yet lustrous polished look. If you need a brushed look to say match your watch or other jewelry - look around - I guarantee you will find just what you are looking for.
It’s a sale like I have never seen on high quality, lustrous, fashionable men’s rings with all varieties of finishes and styles and stones and designs!

Price. An unknown at times meaning that where price gets it basis in fact is a little strange sometimes. I have shopped for slacks, ties, shoes, pens, watches and mens rings - and sometimes I have no clue where the sellers came up with their strategy for pricing?! Have you ever experienced this? The other day I was shopping for a pair of men’s slacks in a general downtown area of the city in which I live. Cheapest were about $30 - most expensive were about $130. What made the one pair a hundred bucks more than the first? I mean I saw stuff like type of fabric, quality of stitching, number and quality of pleats, and even fabric quality - all in all I think a person gets what he pays for - most of the time.
Take shopping for a ring. I was looking for a ceramic ring the other day online. I saw them for $40 and for a hundred dollars - so what is the difference? I looked carefully and the one store - mensringstore.com - had a small but nice collection that were made they said with a ceramic bonding process whereby the rings are made with the color all the way through the ring - not just painted on the outside like so many of the foreign suppliers are prone to do. I wanted one that would last and not show signs of wear so I went ahead and bought the more expensive one - better to buy the right the first time I reasoned.
I can’t figure out how people come up with such creative ways of making things. Not just men’s rings I mean how they use substances like stainless steel for cars and plastic for cell phones and computers. I even saw a hand bad and a matching dress made of “duct tape”!!! Go figure. I guess that is why I am so intrigued with titanium rings.
I knew titanium was used for space age stuff like wings on space craft and in a number of athletic applications like golf clubs - but mens wedding rings?
Titanium rings hold their shape and luster due to its extreme hardness – in fact it has the highest strength to weight ratio of any known element. These and other characteristics make them the leading category in the men’s fashion jewelry industry.
Titanium is 99% pure in the leading manufacturers standards and nickel free. It is extremely lightweight and strong; is corrosion resistant and will not fade in the sunlight and has no known reaction to saltwater.
As stated, titanium rings have many positive characteristics when compared to other conventional materials - far stronger and harder and wears better and doesn’t mar easily. It is a lighter metal which allows for far more design opportunities. They are also Cobalt free which is extremely important when considering potential allergic reactions; it does not rust, is corrosion and scratch resistant and will never tarnish.
Due to its light weight, they are more durable and thicker than their counterparts in Silver, Gold and Platinum increasing the durability and potential for a life time of enjoyment. They are also more resistant to scratches and color abnormalities in that Titanium Rings are not “pigmented” or “painted”.
In summary - if you haven’t considered one of the newer entrants into the world of fashion jewelry - maybe it’s time you did!
What do you think of when you think of guy stuff that is “rugged”? My daughter walked into my office one day when I had opened a package of Krinkle Cut Chips. She took one and tasted it and said, “these are mountain man, rugged chips.” This statement caused me to think about the term “rugged”. What does it mean or imply? Is this a good term, a neutral term or a derogatory term? How would you describe a pair of rugged men’s jeans? My sense is that they would be blue or tan, but somewhat faded, they would have just enough holes or worn places to show a man had worked in them and they would probably be button up instead of zipper in the front. Might even have a loop for a knife or a hammer on one of the back pockets. They would certainly not have a crease down the front and be hole-free now would they? And they wouldn’t be sharply pressed with no worn spots.
Can you picture a men’s rugged sport? I picture rugby or possibly soccer/football - but I would never compare that term with tennis or even golf. Just too dainty - I would say to be rugged it would have to have some dirt and blood in the mix somewhere.
Now to the title - what about a mens rings? What makes a rugged one? Well, I would not picture one with gold and diamonds - too sissy and demure. How about a stainless steel with a light blue band - you’ve got to be kidding me. How about a tungsten ring or a titanium ring? Now you’re talking. I mean … indestructible. No fading. Tough. Cut these babies off your bloody finger tough. No way they are going to get damaged or scratched. They always look new …
Oops. Always look new? Can this be a sign of rugged? Back to the drawing board.
Why ceramic rings? How can they compete? What makes them in demand in the current marketplace? Why are people buying so many of these “black” rings? Can you also buy them in other colors - white for example? Where do they come from and who makes them? Are they sold online, in stores or where? Do you see many people wearing them? Would you wear one? Would you buy one for you and one for your spouse or loved one? Do they have deeper meanings than say a gold or silver ring? Many questions, not so many answers.
Ceramic rings have been in high demand for about 6 years. Online sellers more than likely are selling far more than brick and mortar stores. Some of the online stores that have been selling these rings for many years will sell sometimes a hundred a day ranging in price from under 50 bucks to maybe $100 at tops. They are mostly manufactured in black although I have seen them in many colors including white - but they do not sell as well.
Few people buy two of the same ring - they buy one for themselves or a friend or a loved one, but not two which leads me to believe that few use them as “his and her” engagement or wedding rings. One of my favorite stores is mensringstore.com - they don’t have many to choose from but they are all BEAUTIFUL and discounted heavily - you don’t pay a fortune for one of their mens rings. They also have chosen to use pure ceramic - not dipped in color to appear to be of high standards. it is my understanding that these types will chip and fade much sooner than the one that have color-fast manufacturing processes.
One more thing - these rings are mostly made in China and overseas but some are made in the states. China has a wonderful quality control on most ceramic rings but I would be careful to spend enough to get one that will last and not dent or scratch - and be certain to buy a color-fast product. Good luck!
You’ve all seen it. Banners, promotions, ad slicks, online advertisements, even in store promotions for the newest in men’s rings fashions - tungsten rings, ceramic rings and titanium rings. Why? One reason is that older men who no longer are in the market - particularly wedding rings - are now not the main stream buyer. Main stream buyers are 19-35 years of age and the styles today are far different than they were say 50 years ago.
The rings we mentioned above were not even available for sale back then, some of the metals were not even being used for ring manufacturing. You had gold and silver. Period. Pick one and be happy. Let’s face it you didn’t even have the internet to shop online for comparison purposes. new styles would come out and you wouldn’t even know about it for a year or more. That’s all changed.
Today, in a global marketplace where rings can be purchased from China and elsewhere with immediate shipping, goods flow into all countries very rapidly and these new styles have taken the market by storm. They are hot not just because they are available today and they weren’t 50 years ago - they are hot because they have earned the right to be hot. How?
They are durable and clean looking - they come with lifetime warranties against even scratching. Imagine that - a warranty against scratching - have you ever seen that with your gold one? I’d say not.
Bottom line - they are less expesnive becuae of global marketpalce shipping, they are good looking and eye-catching, they have long, long warranties and they are the most durable rings available on the planet. So that’s the answer to the question - they are hot for a reason and the more they sell - the hotter they become!
Triton. A solid name, a solid warranty, a solid reputation. Triton makes a wide variety or men’s rings from Stainless Steel to Titanium to Tungsten. The Triton warranty includes lifetime ring size exchange as Tungsten Rings cannot be re-sized due to their extreme hardness!
The Triton tungsten carbide rings are made of TC.850, the patented formulation of the world’s hardest substance. This formulation creates a scratch resistant, forever polished luster. Their special micro-grain structure insures that each ring has the strength and hardness of 8.5 on the Mohs Scales of Hardness as compared to a factor of 10 for a diamond.
Actual Triton rings are covered under the following patents: 6062045, 6553667, 6990736, 6928734, 6993842, 7032314 and 7076972.
These rings are 10 times harder than 18k gold. This patented manufacturing phenomenon is created in a sintering process by firing tungsten combined with carbon powder at 6,200 degrees fahrenheit. They are also hypoallergenic, typically in a deep gray color, are scratch resistant and are valued at 1280 on the Vickers Hardness scale.
Perfect for the man who is looking for a rugged, durable yet fashionable look in today’s jewelry industry.
I recently came back from a Boy Scout Camp - you know the routine - 14 young men between the ages of 12 and 14 all geared up (literally and figuratively) and ready to earn merit badges and to earn the right to wear as much filth and dirt on their bodies and clothes as is humanly possible. Yuck. Grime. Filth. Pond Scum. Dirty dishes. Wet clothes everywhere. And oh, some very impressionable young men who await a gentle nudge toward working a little harder toward earning that 4th merit badge at camp and who long for respect and the attention of their adult leaders. As a leader, it was my chance to try and mold a boy’s life, to share a few thoughts that would make boys better men in the years to come, and to occasionally soothe a wound at the hand of a supposed friend.
Admittedly I had to work on my patience as I tried unsuccessfully so many times to offer “shadow leadership” and to let the program be “youth led and directed”. After many failures it oftentimes just takes one little success to make it all worth while - a boy who shows great potential as a leader, who shows kindness to another boy who is left out, who follows through on a difficult assignment. I came to observe that the boys are watching the leaders as intently as the leaders are watching them. These young men who will someday soon be old men have the capacity to see through shallow love and caring … they gravitate toward those leaders who REALLY care.
As we recited many, many times the Scout pledge, “On my honor …” I thought of those things that I honor the most - my wife and family. My extended family … and I realized that everything of true importance to me centers in the family. I hope that never changes. I am thankful to be reminded of these tender truths and even after a late and difficult night at camp, when all I have as a reminder of what I left back home is my men’s ring - a ring worth little by worldly standards, a simple tungsten ring. But by its permanent shine and luster, I was reminded of the light that eminates from love at home, grateful that I had them to come back to, grateful that I had an opportunity of helping a young man find himself.
