Q. Does this mean that I should look for this logo when purchasing a men’s ring?

A. Nothing can guarantee one’s safety when purchasing any product but certainly it helps to know that the store you are buying from has been accepted to be part of this prestigious organization.

Q. When was JOA started and do they recommend certain stores over others?

A. Started in 1906, the JOA does not promote one store over another.

Q. I saw that mensringstore.com has their logo on their site - does this mean they are a member?

A. Yes they are a member … but just because someone has the logo on their site does not necessarily mean they are a certified, dues paying member.

Q. Does it matter if you are a retail store selling rings or can you be an online store and still be a member?

A. Both categories are included in their general membership.

Why do men’s rings sell for such different prices?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Men’s rings are made in a variety of different sizes, materials, and a variety of semi-precious and precious stones; they are also sold online, in retail stores, kiosks, and wherever used goods are sold. Thus, a wide variance in pricing. That being said, there are some components of this product that one might do well to research before buying which add to the complexity of the end price:

  • Generally speaking online sales are going to offer a more compelling price than in retail stores - this is because the overhead online is far less than at retail locations with high rent and employee costs
  • CZ’s and gold-plating are far less expensive than diamonds and real gold
  • Titanium rings are made in a variety of different grades - be careful not to get sucked into a cheap one without finding out what it is made of
  • In many cases the larger ones are more expensive than the smaller sizes in that there is so much more product in sizes 12 and above
  • When purchasing rings that are made from non-scratch materials, these can cost more than say from the same looking product but which are made from less costly materials

These are just a few of the ways a person can be safer when buying. Remember that quality lasts and will most often cost a little more but in the long run is worth this added cost.

His and Hers matching ring sets

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

My wife and I thought about getting a set of rings that would match - something that would last a lifetime and show that we thought deeply about the relationship and the idea of unity in a marriage. We first looked at all of the traditional places - like jewelry stores in the mall and in strip-centers.

Anyway, we started shopping on line and found that many of the sets were offered in a variety of sizes - from size 4 through 15 or sometimes even larger. That was all it took, we found a beautiful tungsten ring that we both liked and fortunately it was available in my size and hers!

In checking further we also found a set in stainless steel that we really liked as well. I guess the important thing to know is that you can find a ring and in most cases you can purchase it for the man or the woman, depending upon sizing. I would just recommend that before you buy you make sure the sizes are not just for men.
