I was watching a man with a metal detector at a school the other day and it brought back a memory from college days (many years ago). A group of us had gotten together to celebrate graduation and we played sports of all kinds in a large park before having a scrumptious dinner. Then it happened.
One of the men made a comment that stopped all of the fun activities and started a whole new game .. although it was not as fun at least to one who started the game! He said, “I lost my ring”. It turned out that it was a men’s ring made of gold. Not the newer fashions of today like tungsten rings and ceramic rings. Gold - he said it cost over $1,000 and he was really upset. It was his grandfather’s, entrusted to him by his mother who received it when her father passed away.
Interestingly enough, someone suggested we pray and ask for divine help, then someone suggested a metal detector and away we went with hours of fun (to MOST of us) searching for it.
I wish I could say that this story has a happy ending and it does in some respects although it was never found. But we bonded and prayed and ate and had fun and most of us will always remember the great time we had at graduation - oh so many years ago.
Maybe he bought another one - I don’t know. But I know this - I will never invest $1,000 and these days you don’t have to. I found one recently for under $300 that was titanium (airplanes are made of this stuff) and it is guaranteed to last forever (unless I lose it).
How do you shop? Online? Or inline at the mall? Come on - join the 21st century!
The last time I went shopping - for a men’s ring - I waited in traffic to get to the mall, then I parked and walked a long way to the mall entrance and then I stumbled through the mall trying to find the right store with the right prices for the right ring. I walked away with nothing but a headache. Not my way to spend a free afternoon!
My online experience was somewhat different. A cup of tea in one hand with my feet propped up on my desk and clicking the mouse toward - you guessed it - ring heaven. There they were … at my fingertips (literally) … gold, silver, tungsten, and many others. Wow.
Prices? Cheaper. Selection? Greater. Time invested? Far less. I think I found the way shopping was meant to be.
Many golfers out there know that titanium has been used in golf clubs for awhile. But why not try tungsten. I mean, its stronger, and more scratch resistant, a newer type of hit in the United States lately. But let me tell you why this is not a good option.
First of all, this is a heavy, weighted material. No one wants to carry something around that is this heavy. They simply don’t want to do it. But what do they want? Something that is very strong, so why not use the same material that is made for a tungsten ring. Because its simply too hard! What? How can something be TOO hard. Well let me tell you. When a metal is softer, it scratches, and leaves small dents, that is what most golf clubs are like. So the opposite of that, is something that never scratches, and when hit hard, like when golfing, the metal would shatter. That is because there is simply no give in tungsten carbide. So if you were to use this for golfing, you could have metal flying all over the place. So to answer the question, please do not try and use this for a golfing game.
We both probably agree that this sounds like a weird topic. But think about it. Halloween, scary masks, what can be more scary than the very eyes that are starring you down! When you look at someone, if you’re scared or not, that is what people look at first. If you were to have tungsten carbide in place of those marble eyes, then you would get scared big time!!
This is because tungsten rings are shiny everywhere you look, they take all the light in the room, and reflect everywhere. That is whats so great about this jewelry. Doesn’t this seem to be a great idea, to start making eyes with this, and putting them in Halloween face masks. I actually knew someone on Google that sold around 800 of these in one day before. What an enormous thing this subject is, so why not increase and start making everything better. One other thought, you could even put a small light that shined on the eyes, to make it even more scary!
Next - look for another idea I have - Titanium sandles!
Did you know that bullets are mass produced all over the United States. They are everywhere. Everyone is hunting, and how do you typically hunt, that’s right, with a gun which of course shoots the bullets. But why not use something else besides how they are typically made?
Think about tungsten carbide. Such a strong metal, something that wont even scratch. But with this comes some bad news. Tungsten is so hard that it would shatter if ever shot from a gun. Why? When something doesn’t give at all, because of the extreme hardness, it will shatter into pieces. So instead of using this, I would say titanium is a much better option. I am not sure if this has been used before, probably because of the high cost. But these would not ever shatter, and might work for the future if these have not already been used.
Got an idea? Let us know - we are anything but closed minded!
