Sizing your men’s ring

When was the last time you bought a men’s ring? What size did you buy? You don’t remember do you? Why would you - it’s probably been years ago. So let’s say you’re now in the market for one - what do you do when it’s time to pick out the final ring size? Guess? Estimate? Call a friend? Ask the audience? If anyone has ever told you something like, “there’s only one way to know for sure, go get your ring finger sized at a jewelry store”, they were wrong. There is no absolute, sure-fire, never wrong method. Period. You can only come close.

Don’t believe me? Try checking your ring finger in the summer versus the winter. Different sizes right? That’s because your finger expands in the heat of the summer and contracts - actually gets smaller in diameter - in the cold of the winter. Great - so what do I do to get the right size? First of all you understand that there is not a perfect size, there are approximations to perfect sizes. That helps get into the right mental frame of mind.

Next, use a ring sizer to get the best approximation. You can find one in major jewelers or online they have little paper sizing devices you can print and cut-out and use like a real one. They work pretty well also. You can also take an existing ring that fits well and get it sized for comparison. You might take a few things into consideration - like what time of year it is and if you are gaining weight or losing weight. Hopefully the latter …

One great way is to buy the right men’s ring - like a tungsten ring. Most of the patented, well made tungsten varieties come with a feature called “comfort fit”. This feature has a rounded interior and exterior to the ring part that touches your finger allowing it to go on and come off smoother - without as much discomfort. It also is forgiving of a little bit too small ring size. I know mensringstore.com carries a large variety of comfort fit styles and sizes from 4 to 16. Anyway, remember that there is no perfect size - just some very close approximations! And, good luck!
