What’s price got to do with it - got to do with it? Ceramic rings that is?

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Price. An unknown at times meaning that where price gets it basis in fact is a little strange sometimes. I have shopped for slacks, ties, shoes, pens, watches and mens rings - and sometimes I have no clue where the sellers came up with their strategy for pricing?! Have you ever experienced this? The other day I was shopping for a pair of men’s slacks in a general downtown area of the city in which I live. Cheapest were about $30 - most expensive were about $130. What made the one pair a hundred bucks more than the first? I mean I saw stuff like type of fabric, quality of stitching, number and quality of pleats, and even fabric quality - all in all I think a person gets what he pays for - most of the time.

Take shopping for a ring. I was looking for a ceramic ring the other day online. I saw them for $40 and for a hundred dollars - so what is the difference? I looked carefully and the one store - mensringstore.com - had a small but nice collection that were made they said with a ceramic bonding process whereby the rings are made with the color all the way through the ring - not just painted on the outside like so many of the foreign suppliers are prone to do. I wanted one that would last and not show signs of wear so I went ahead and bought the more expensive one - better to buy the right the first time I reasoned.

Common mistakes when buying men’s wedding rings

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Knowing what some of the mistakes are when buying men’s wedding rings might help you if you find yourself in the position of needing one for yourself or a special person in your life. Actually there are many mistakes but I will focus on the top 3:

1. Buying the wrong size. This is particularly an issue if you are buying a custom made ring and / or of the ring needs to be delivered by a particular date and there is no margin for error in the timeline. Additionally if the store you buy from has a crummy or non-existent return policy - you are in big trouble.

2. Purchasing from the wrong store. Most people think of the local jewelry store where their parents bought from years ago - the corner store or maybe even one of the newer malls in the area. Think again - high retail costs have driven up the price of men’s rings over the past 10 years; high rents, high insurance, high employee costs, theft, you name it - prices have skyrocketed in brick and mortar lcoations! You might want to check out the online sellers just to make sure you aren’t getting taken to the cleaners.

3. Buying the wrong quality. Or, one might say buying on the cheap. Today you can purchase a really nice tungsten or titanium or ceramic ring for under $300. You don’t need to buy the first cheap one you find in the mall or online - shop around and make sure you trust who you are buying from, check out their return policies and their written warranties. The newer rings on the market today - as noted above - are typically made with scratch-resistant materials and are highly durable. This minimizes the problems associated with quality in the older materials - before they were made using these hard, dynamic and durable materials.

Well, these aren’t the only mistakes people are making but in this writer’s opinion, they are the top 3 - in whatever order you choose. In any event, be careful and enjoy the fruits from buying right the first time!

The recent Time article regarding men’s rings and fidelity

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

I read with interest a recent time Magazine article titled “Unfaithfully Yours”. It appears that all of the recent hoopla about Governors, Senators and high-profile dignitaries being unfaithful to their wives has created a stir internationally. Why do they do this? Why are they so risk drawn when they have so much to lose? The article suggested that at its heart is a casual commitment to the marriage commitment itself. Many do not take it seriously - or at least not as much as people in the world used to. It is sad enough when considering the spouse that was cheated on … but of course the children are the real losers in this unfortunate game of selfishness and intrigue.

Did a men’s wedding ring used to mean more? Did a ring - tungsten ring, ceramic ring or any kind on a man’s finger used to say I am taken, I am committed, I am loyal to my best friend - my wife? Oh that it were that way again.

Let’s get back to the way things used to be - let’s get comnitted. Let’s remember who we are, let’s remember our children. Let’s remember our loved ones and place them first instead of our own selfish desires. We can do it - let’s make America strong again!

Searching for the men’s ring for you …

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Searching. always searching. Through malls. Through shopping centers. Online. Everywhere. Even pawnshops … always shopping, finding nothing. Ever felt this way as you shopped for your men’s ring? Whether it’s a tungsten ring or a ceramic ring, maybe a few tips might be in order …

Google is a great search engine - has probably 60%+ of all traffic on the web. what does this mean? It means that of all people who go online to search for something to buy or read or study about, over 60% of those people will use Google as their preferred search engine. Where do the other 40% go? For the most part they go to Yahoo followed by Bing - the new search engine that used to be called MSN.

For instance, using the example above - you wanted a men’s ring, you might type in “ceramic rings” on one of these search engines and you would see a list of companies who sold that particular item. Typically the companies at the top 4-5 positions receive the most “hits” from potential customers. How does one get to this coveted position - well to really find out that answer you would have to ask Google or Yahoo or Bing. But generally speaking, these are companies who have proven their worth, their longevity, their stability and reliability and integrity. That is one way to get ranked high on these search engines so in a sense buying from them protects you to a certain extent as well.

Remember, when buying online, always use PayPal or a credit card in that these purchases can be tracked and reported should any fraudulent activity occur. But for the most part, these unusual, dishonest activities have been protected through software upgrades and good business pracices and by the good sense of consumers online. So go ahead, shop, find, and buy with confidence!

Sun in the face and a men’s ring on the finger

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

It could not have been a more beautiful day. The sun was high in the sky and made all who felt its warmth wish for only one season a year. It was breathtaking in its warmth and beauty - left us all feeling like we were teenagers again - you remember, no sunscreen, just tan, dark , muscular bodies enjoying nature without the fear of aging! Oh that those days could come again, but back to the story …

I was minding my own business with a few friends when I noticed that the men’s wedding ring I had had for almost 35 years was missing. I was horrified. Not because it was a beautiful ceramic ring that my wife had given me - but because of all it symbolized in those 35 years of marital bliss (well most of them anyway). I think she would agree -we had worked through our differences - as minor as they were - and we loved to be together - well except when the guys went down to the beach to fish and play and tip a few …

I just could not imagine going home without the ring - what would she think that I took it off so that the babes wouldn’t know I was married - I would never even think to do that - and I know she knew that about me. That is what made everything so special - we had total trust. Most of our friends really admired that about our relationship - we never had to ask any hard questions … just little ones like “would you like for me to set the table” or “let’s skip the movie tonight and just talk - are you in the mood to do that?”

But the men’s ring - then I remembered. I had placed it in the locker as we dressed to come to the beach and sure enough it was there - right where I had left it.

When a ring matches your countenance

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Have you ever met someone who simply radiates? I mean you can tell they have something special inside of them. Their spirit, their smile, their inside, their eyes, their body. their flair and movements - all combine to suggest that they have it together. That they are happy to be alive. that they are living right. That they have nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. I love to meet people like this - don’t you?

I met a guy the other day. Yep, he was one of these we are talking about. we were on a flight to Boston and had some time to kill and he started asking me a bunch of questions. When I told him I was a writer and specialized in writing about the latest men’s rings and jewelry and fashions such as these. He looked down at his hand, took off his ring and said - tell me about this and why I wear it!

As I looked at it I knew immediately it was a ceramic ring with a black luster and a beveled design - in fact I had seen the exact one at mensringstore.com. But I played along for a minute and told him I would have to take some time to think about it which I did. I then said, before I tell you about this, may i ask you why you radiate with a special something that says you are happy? He smiled and for the next two hours he told me about his religion and what he believed and how he came upon his beliefs - I was so engrossed I forgot about all other subjects, about time, and I forgot about his ring which I had slipped into my pocket so as not to lose it during the discussion.

Yes, you guessed it - he left and I left and I was so caught up in his happiness and in his spirit and in what he told me that I couldn’t wait to get home to tell my wife which i did. Then, I emptied my pockets and there it was - his ring. We did not even exchange names and I had no idea even what he did for a living. He just vanished. The airline would not give me any details about who he was, they said it was against company policy.

So what did I do? I put the ring on and it fit - perfectly. I wear it as a reminder of this special person - in fact sometimes I think that he might of even done it on purpose becuase that is the type of operson he was!

What is the number 1 factor when buying a men’s ring?

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Any thoughts on this question? The number one factor when buying a men’s ring? Let’s explore some options:

  1. size
  2. color
  3. inlaid materials
  4. price
  5. style and fashion
  6. wife’s (friend’s) suggestion and/or approval
  7. gut feel
  8. feel on your finger
  9. eye-catching appeal
  10. durability

OK. My first guess is #4 because we all have a particular price in mind when buying almost anything! For instance a ceramic ring at $109 is maybe in your price range but a tungsten ring at $500 is not. So, it appears to me that we first and foremost decide a price range and then we move on to all the other decisions listed above.

Want to try for a second spot?

OK - here goes. I think #2 would be eye-catching appeal because we all want something that LOOKS nice, that matches our taste. Price then looks … what are your thoughts? Let me know when you hav e amoment - I would love to hear form you. Thanks

Buying style in a men’s ring

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

How does one buy style in a men’s ring? Is it color? Is it fashion? Is it size or type of material? Is it strength or durability? Is it eye-catching luster? Is it the stones that are inlaid? What really makes your ring a style for you?

Here are some thoughts. First of all and probably the most important aspect - do you think it is stylish? do you think it looks right on your hand? Does it mean something to you more than just another piece of jewelry?

My favorite is a black ceramic ring from mensringstore.com. Does this mean this will be your favorite? NO. I chose mine for entirely different reasons than why you will be choosing yours. I love black. You might love white or gold or some other color or material.

Style is like beauty - it lies in the eye of the beholder. My suggestion is to do your homework - find out all about the various styles and fashions on the market today. Pick one out and ask someone or a few people you really trust. Tell them why you like it - and ask them for their honest opinion.

Remember - you will be the one wearing this men’s ring - not anyone else - so buy it for the most important person in life - YOU.

Is a Men’s Ring a Good Investment?

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Is a men’s ring a good investment? It depends upon what you are looking for in an investment. Are you looking for a financial return on the money you spent? Are you looking for the item purchased to be worth more over time? Are you looking for a lifetime of pleasure and enjoyment from your purchase? Are you looking for all of the above?

To me - I did not buy my tungsten ring as an investment - as one might think of a pure investment. I did not go out and buy one thinking I need this to be worth more in 10 years than it is today. But what I did do was this - I looked for one that would last, was covered by a lifetime warranty, one that I would be proud of, one that would not tarnish or fade or even scratch. Will my ring be worth more than the $200 I paid in 10 or 15 years? I doubt it. But will I have enjoyed every moment I wore it? I think so.

I almost bought a ceramic ring but I truly did want toget something that would last so I changed my mind. I am convinced that the ring I bought is the best for looks, quality and a return on my investment - but you will have to make that decision for yourself.Ā  Good luck.

Paying for your men’s ring

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

How do you pay for a men’s ring if you are buying online? It is a different story in the retail store or the mall or even if you sue the newspaper and buy a used one. Many times you can use cash or a check … but how do you pay online?

One of the most secure methods of paying online is a company called Paypal. The wonderful thing about using this service is that you can use a credit card or you can simply have the money taken out of your checking account if you prefer. In most cases if you haveĀ  dispute with the vendor, Paypal will help you settle the dispute and protect your money in the interim.

Of course using a credit card - if the online store accepts them - is another secure method of payment. In today’s world, paying online is safe if you use good judgment and only buy from reputable sites. And again, if a dispute should occur your credit card company will help you by getting yoru money into a safe place while the dispute proceeds.

So whether it is a tungsten ring or a ceramic ring, buy with confidence from online sources you trust and who use Paypal and who also accept all major credit cards!
